Spanky & Shadow - look very happy
at their new home with Chad & Julie!
Smokey, aka Dozer, is
very happy in his new home
with Becky, Don, and Bandit.
He loves to cuddle on the
couch and lay next to Bandit.
He is doing very well at house
training. He has quite an appetite
and has gained a few pounds
since moving in and has grown
quite a bit. He is the same size
as Bandit that is 2 years older
than him. He is also becoming
a very well behaved boy. Both
are spoiled!
Bubba (the big black dog formerly known as Jet)
is the latest and greatest addition to our family! He
loves taking walks and even longer naps.  He especially
enjoys chasing and retrieving duck toys and tennis balls,
and he's coming along well in obedience training. His
habit of collecting personal items (our shoes, stuffed
animals, clothing, etc.) and keeping them on his bed
has taken some getting use to, but now when the kids
are missing a shoe, it is pretty easy to figure out where
it went!  Bubba gets along great with our 4 cats, and
even puts up with some kitty cuddling and grooming!
We can't imagine our house without our big ol Bubba dog!

We want to thank Adopt-A-Pet so much for rescuing
our baby girl,
Indy! She is always happy and ready
for a good play session. Her favorite things are
chasing her big brother, Barkley the Cat, and playing
with her neighborhood buddies, especially Lucy, who
was also rescued by Adopt-A-Pet. Indy and Lucy get
up at 5:30am every morning and go for a nice walk,
and then they have a play date while their moms get
ready for work. Indy has free reign of the house during
the day. When we get home from work, she generally
has every toy in her box out. So, she must have fun
playing during the day. We try to go to the dog park
at least once a week, but usually more often than that.
Indy loves to play with other dogs. Indy and her brother
Barkley usually do pretty well together, but they some
times like to get into trouble too! Like when they put
their heads together and open up the closet to their
food, or when they knock the Oreo bag down, pucture
a small hole in it, and take turns eating the cookies
while Mom is in the shower. Indy loves to travel. She
gets very excited about going to the coffee drive-thru
and getting a treat too. Mom and Dad almost have to
get a bigger bed because Indy likes to sprawl out in
bed and sleep at night. Indy just
LOVES life! She is
such a joy, and we adore her.
Thanks again Adopt-A-Pet for the great addition
to our family. We appreciate all you do.
Our 15 year old Schnauzer, Sparky (Adopt-A-Pet Alumni), passed
away this spring, and I was suffering big time from doggy withdrawl.
My husband was very hesitant about getting another dog. Liz
brought
Lucy by for a home visit and before she left my husband
said "OK you can get her".  I was going to keep her even without his
approval.

Lucy had been abused and was very timid. After three days of
watching her do the army crawl around the house, I was having
second thoughts. She wouldn't even walk with me to the end of the
block. Her little tail was constantly between her legs. Then one day
after spending the morning with her cousin, Indy (Adopt-A-Pet
Alumni), we found out we had actually adopted a little dog with a rip
roaring personality. We had been hesitant to introduce Indy and
Lucy because Indy was all about loving everyone. We were
concerned that Indy's enthusiasm would harm Lucy. We were totally
wrong. Indy and Lucy have formed a bond stronger than Super
Glue. Since then, Indy and Lucy have daily walks, and lots of
supervised wrestling and growling sessions.

Lucy has had a wonderful summer with us. She has been a good
little kayaker, safely testing her life jacket, and has ridden on the
bow of the boat with her ears flapping in the wind. She insists on
visiting the dog park weekly but would prefer daily visits. Lucy (15
pounds) catches a lot of attention at the dog park when she takes a
running power dive at indy (35 pounds).  She has even become a
certified trainer and is keeping our two cats fit and trim. She has
blossomed into the happy little dog she was meant to be. My
husband confessed that he likes her.
I was only 8 months old when my owner gave me away to Adopt-A-Pet.
Leaving her was sad, but right away I met Jason and Amanda and knew
they would be my forever family. They fell in love with my unique coloring
and big Pomeranian eyes! Even when I had accidents in the house, tore
apart tissue boxes, dumped over the garbage cans and stole stuffed animals,
they loved me. They took me to obedience school, taught me tricks and
took me for walks. Finally, after listening to trainers, friends and family, they
got me a brother. Popeye, my Sheltie brother, was also an Adopt-A-Pet rescue.
He was 5 years old when he joined our family and he keeps me very busy. I
have far less time to get in trouble now, though I still try. Popeye and I love to
wrestle, play chase, and tease each other with toys. We're both really good
at rally at obedience school and someday Popeye will do pet therapy at the
nursing home like me.
Thank you Adopt-A-Pet for our family,
                          Love, Sacci

Max - It took two years for this to
happen.  Max is an Adopt-A-Pet dog
raised by a volunteer.  He is what the
family needed to bring us happiness at a
rough time in our lives.
Max
We love her to death!  She has completed our
family.  My two girls ages 3 and 1 1/2
absolutely adore her.  They are always
hugging and kissing
her.  She just lays there and lets them do it.
We
are so lucky to have her and I think that she is
really happy here too.
      Thanks so much,

My name is Pippin and I now live with
Darcy, Steve and Smeagol.
Smeagol
and I have lots of fun getting into lots
of trouble.  Pippin was a referral kitten
at the March 5th Adoption Days at the
Fargo PETCO.  He is a very happy kitty
that purrs a lot and likes to show lots of
love by licking your face.  He got his name
because like the Lord of Rings hobbit, he
is a little guy that gets himself into lots of
trouble.  He has been to the vet and besides
his booster follow-up; he is now current on
all his shots.  Steve and I really enjoy him.

Thank you so much Adopt-A-Pet!

Brandy---->
I have a new adopted sister!  Her name is Bitzie and although she is much bigger
than me, we get along just fine.  If only she would stop stealing food out of my bowl. ï¿¿
My name is
Brandy and I came to live with Bert and Ginny a few years ago.  I spend
most of my time in my Mom's lap wrapped up in a blanket (which I just love!) However,
now that I have a new sister I also spend time chasing her around the house and trying
to remind her who is the boss.
Bitzie is a Yellow Lab with lots of energy!  She is still very much a puppy and keeps
Mom and Dad very busy.  She likes to carry things around in her mouth (as you can
see from the picture) and eat, eat, eat!  Dad is still trying to teach her what obedience
is all about. That may take a while!
Anyway, we are two very happy dogs and grateful to Adopt-A-Pet for placing us in
such a caring and loving home.
Sincerely,  Brandy

Maybe you'll remember this little guy......he used to
be
Jude. We adopted him December of 2004.  His
new name is
Sir Wallace...we just call him mew mew.
We love him sooooo much and he brings a lot of joy
to our lives.  We also have a dog named Sadie.
They have a love/hate relationship, more love than
hate.  They play a lot and keep each other company
when we go to work.  Mew Mew sleeps with me every
night on top of my head on my pillow.  He loves pounce
and his cat tree.  He is my spoiled little baby.  I don't
know what I'd do without him!!  We adopted him at
PETCO and I think that was the best decision.  To
save an unfortunate animal and love them unconditionally
is truely a blessing.....he repays me a hundred times over
everyday!!!
This cat was known as Sebastian in the Referral Section of Adopt a Pet.
He is the sweetest guy ever. He loves to sit on my lap, give me lots of hugs,
and sleep in the bed with me. He likes to roll on his back and have his belly
rubbed. I got him on the day of my birthday so I always call him my birthday
cat
He really has made me happy! This is all due to this program that helped
somone out in need. I renamed him Hector.I didnt expect to get a cat quite
as old as him, but he's a very lively, yet laid back kitty. I was worried when i
first got him because he hid under my bed, but he adapted beautifully and
gets alone with everyone he meets.
In May of 2004, we had to have our four-year-old yellow & white tabby,
Pumpkin, put to sleep because of illness.  In July, at the prompting of a good
friend at work, I went out to the Adopt-A-Pet website, just to look at the kitties.
 I was drawn to
Macy immediately because her coloring reminded me of my
first house cat, Fat Cat, who was with me for almost 20 years.  However, my
husband and I
really wanted another yellow & white cat.  When my friend and I
went to see Macy in her foster home, we were told about a yellow & white striped
kitten,
Taylor, who had just become available.  We got to see Taylor and Macy
playing together and romping through the foster home  like they'd always been
together.  At the next Petco Adoption Day, I went to see both kittens again and
knew  that I just couldn't choose between them, so I brought
both of them into
our home and into our hearts.  Taylor became
"PJ" (Pumpkin, Jr.).  They aren't
litter mates, but you would never know it as they are extremely close and both
love to torment their older sister, Miloe.  We are grateful to our friend who
brought Adopt-A-Pet to our attention and helped us fill our lives with the
happiness that only being owned by a pet can bring!
We're sorry it took so long to send you an update, but our lives have been very
exciting and busy.  It took
Ginger & Stormy about 5-6 days to get adjusted to
their new lives with us and our cats, Albert & Charlote.  They really enjoyed living in the
country and going for walks 2-3 times a day.  They liked to explore all the smells, but
didn't seem to know what anything was until they saw a few pheasants and deer.
Then it was all we could do to keep them calm.  They also enjoy playing with Albert, the
cat that thinks he's a dog.  He and Ginger enjoy chasing each other around the house
and jumping out at each other from around corners.
In May, we took a trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and Ginger and Stormy got
to go with us.  They really liked riding in the canoe and having all the water they could
drink right out  the side.  Neither wanted to try and swim because it was a little chilly.
This past week we moved to Juneau, AK.  Stan had an opportunity to attend graduate
school and we couldn't turn it down.  We also couldn't leave Ginger & Stormy behind.
They loved being with us 24 hours a day for 5 days, riding in the vehicle (Ginger loved
the breeze from the window) and the various walks we got to take at our pit stops.
We now live in a house in town  but they ahve a very nice sized fenced yard they can
run and play in.  We also go on hikes on the various trails around town and they really
like that.  There are so many new smells for them, places to go, and people to see.
We've enclosed a few pictures of "The Adventures of Ginger and Stormy" so you can
see some of the great places they get to explore.

Norton, like his namesake on The Honeymooners, spent some time in the sewer.
Someone tried to dispose of Norton, his mother Alice, and his sister Trixie by drowning
them in sewage.  They were rescued and eventually went to Adopt-A-Pet where they
were nursed back to health by their foster parents.  John and I first became aware of
Norton while we were at Petco to get cat food one Saturday.  We saw his picture on
the display board and had a wonderful talk with Jill and learned poor Norton's story.
He looked so tiny but energetic in his photo.  Jill informed us that he was a very active
little guy.  John and I decided that we would like to at least meet Norton and see what
we thought.  The next day we were contacted and given the name and number for
Norton's foster home.  On Monday, we contacted the foster home and made
arrangements to meet Norton that evening.  Well, when Cathy (foster mom) brought
Norton and his sister Trixie upstairs to meet us, Norton was everywhere!  He ran
around the living room, pouncing and playing like a wild man, afraid of nothing.  Of
course, we fell in love with him right there.  We filled out the paperwork and took him
home that very night.  Upon arriving home, after a stop for kitten food and a new toy
(or five), the rest of the family got to meet him.  Norton now has three big brothers,
Booger, Alexander, and Benjamin.  They spend their time playing, napping and being
cuddly cute.  John and I feel really good about adopting Norton and look forward to
spending a very long time enjoying his company.
Thanks, Adopt-A-Pet - Mark and John

Sam, formerly known as "Snoopy"(top left), was
rescued from the pound and  came to live with us as a
foster dog.  After getting to know him, we decided that we
couldn't part with him, so we adopted him ourselves.  He
is thriving in a busy house with two adults, two children
(3-1/2 & 1-1/2) and three cats, including Annie and Zoey
(bottom left) who were adopted from AAP in previous
years.  Sam is a good boy who loves to play, chew on
rawhides and go for walks & car rides.  We are so lucky
that he came to live with us.  Thanks Adopt-A-Pet!
Sheila, Marty, and family.
We adopted Annie Rose in August from Adopt-A-Pet.
She is a joy to have around and has the best personality.  She
literally dances before she eats or gets a bone.   People are
stunned by her funny antics.  She loves to be petted by
anybody, go on car rides and take long walks by the river.  A
perfect match, she and my son have become best friends.
Their favorite activity is laying in bed together in the morning
and watching cartoons.
My son frequently says "Mom, aren't you so glad that we got
Annie?"

Thank you so much!
Heather, Landon, and Annie Rose
Dear Foster Mom,
Just wanted to let you know we are doing fine.  Our new Mom and Dad are taking
very good care of us.  They give us lots of hugs and kisses.  We have lots of room to
run and play and plenty of good napping spots.
We got new names (not sure what that is all about).  Sister (
Vivian) is now called
Amber because of her eyes. I am now called Abby (Nessa).  I'm sure glad they didn't
call me "Olive" with my green eyes.  They still have trouble telling us apart - even got
us fancy necklaces in the hopes that it would help..... still not working ;-)
We are learning new things.  Amber is learning to use the computer and getting very
good at it.  I'm practicing to be a reindeer for next year's Christmas display.  We have
both taken up dancing and, if I do say so myself, getting pretty good at it.  At night
we sleep with Mom and Dad.  We cuddle right up between them - not taking any
chances of more brothers and sisters getting any of our attention.
We miss you, Foster Mom, and want to thank you for all the love you gave us while
you had us.  We are happy in our new home and are getting spoiled rotten.  If you
want to call of visit us, Mom and Dad would be happy to hear from you (they don't let
us use the phone or answer the door).
Hugs and Kisses,
Abby & Amber (aka Nessa & Vivian)
Hi There - We were at Petco in February 2006 and adopted the
only cat that was there that day.  The volunteers said his
name was
Tommy but that they'd only named him that day -
we changed his name to
Hector when we got home.  He is a
lovely cat and does very well when we are working or in class.
When we come home, he runs to us and demands to be held
almost all night.  He is also very vocal, which is really cute -
except at 4am!!  We are so pleased with him and already love
him very much.  Thank you!
Jake (left) is the newest member of the Hoyt Family Zoo!  Before Jake came to us,
we had five animals in the house already - two bearded dragons, two cats, and a
dog (not to mention 2 fish tanks), but we just couldn't say "No" to him.  His big
sister, Grace (right) was an AAP alum that we got in May 2005.  She was abused
before we had her and still spends a lot of time darting around corners to avoid
confrontations with Dad - but she's getting much better!  She's still a Mom's Girl -
but she will go to him for treats and walks nicely on the least with him.  Jake, on the
other hand, is a Daddy's Boy!  He follows his Dad everywhere in the house and
whines if he gets out of sight.  The feline siblings, Toby and Shelby, are finally
starting to getting used to all the canine energy in the house, but they are still a
little leery.  Jake tries to chase them, but his short little legs can't keep up with their
speed and agility.  He also can't keep up with Grace who practically tramples him
when she want's him to run with her.  Jake's found something he's good at,
however - laying around and sleeping!  We are so grateful to AAP for our wonderful
zoo!
The Hoyts
My husband, Brian, surprised me with Belle on October 15, 2005.  Belle was a little
timid and shy at first, but after she found out that this was her new home, she
became the happy dog that she is today!!  She has a wonderful smile!!  She is just
always so happy when Brian and I come home.  She has control over the house while
we are gone and loves up everyone that walks through our door.  I am always telling
her that she is my baby and how much we love her.  Belle is quite the spoiled dog.
She likes to play fetch and then cuddle up with you.  She has gained about five pounds
since we've had her.  So, needless to say, a 62-pound lap dog is a little crazy, but how
could anyone resist that face?  I want to thank Adopt A Pet for everything that they
do.  Belle is our baby and we love her very much!!
Candi & Brian
I just wanted to send some pictures of Maggie, who we adopted in Spring of 2005.
She is a happy, healthy, two-year-old now and has adjusted to family life well.  She is
such a sweet girl.  Our three-year-old son just loves her and she is so good playing
with him, cuddling with him, or just being at our feet (or more likely on the couch with
us, trying to be a 55 lb. lap dog).  She loves playing fetch, going on walks, and has
learned to go down the slide on our swingset!  She recently became a camping dog
with us and has her own place on the foot of our son's bed in the camper.  Thank you
for rescuing her from the dog pound and letting us adopt her.
Matt, Jessica, and Dylan
P.S. Maggie won second place in our local kids' dog show.  Everyone there thought she
was so beautiful!
On Tuesday, June 14, 2005, we adopted Licorice -  my son and I came to Petco and
talked with Licorice's foster mom about her and got her into our carrier.  We got her
home and left her carrier open with her food and litter box nearby.  She came out of
her carrier and looked over the house and though it was ok.  She and I didn't sleep a
lot that night.  She came on my bed and started to go to sleep, but new noises woke
her - she'd go investigate and then come back.  Now we're coming up on one year with
her at our house.  We kept the name Licorice and we absolutely love her - she's great
company for my husband who recently retired.  They are on the computer together and
they nap together.  When I come home from work, she is always there to greet me.
Licorice is a lap cat and very lovable.  She is all black except for a white crown on her
neck & a  white oval on her tummy which she loves to have scratched.  I was
devastated after we lost our previous cat to cancer and wasn't sure I wanted a new
cat, but saw her on the website and was drawn to her.  Our vet thinks she is part
Burmese and part Siamese - she does a purr-meow sound. I've learned since that black
cats are the hardest to adopt out - probably because of the stigma of "bad luck," but
she's been nothing but Good Luck for us - she's a wonderful cat!!  Thank you so much
to the foster mom who helped me that first evening - I was so nervous - but she's
been the perfect choice for us!
June
Hi- We have had Sunny (aka Tippy) for over two
weeks and she's feeling more at home each day.
She's so smart it's easy to forget she's only 3-4
months old (she knows her new name, "come,"
"stay," and "no"...usually).  Housetraining is
slowly coming along.  We also think her dad was a
beagle as she has bayed at my husband and
always has her nose to the ground!
Gwen, Sunny, & Da Boys
Mischka aka Tiffany was adopted Sept. 2004, as a mere puppy of 5 months.  She has
been a challenge due to her size and her belief that she's a lap dog - she loves to be
close to people but often doesn't realize that she's sitting/standing on your feet!!
She is very smart and we've abandoned her dog run because she can Houdini her way
right out of it.  She runs the house at times, opening the screen door on her own to
go in the backyard or helping to make the bed by laying on it and demanding belly
rubs or a game of tug.  She loves inventing new games - she waits in her open crate
when we unlock the door, then (after we've inspected the house to make sure nothing
has been destroyed) when we tell her she's a "good girl", she comes barreling out of
the crate to give kisses and get treats.  She's a multi-tasker - she'll have a toy in her
mouth and be playing with two other toys at the same time.  Her best talent is her
singing - her howls sound like "I Love You" and she will continue until she decides the
song is over, no matter where she is or what time it is.  Mischka is a great traveller
and enjoys being spoiled & she frequently comes home from her grandma's with new
toys/behaviors.  We couldn't imagine life without Mischka and her antics.  Thank you
Adopt-A-Pet for the wonderful, loving companion and special thanks to Liz for all her
information and help with the "puppy" stage.
Sarah
Milo and Felix (now known as Taz) are brothers.  Me, being their foster mom
couldn't see both of them going too far.  I talked my mom into adopting Taz and I
kept Milo.  These kittens were at one time petite, but now have grown to be over 15
pounds each.  Taz now loves to peer out the windows at the butterflies, and even
has his own stool for viewing purposes.  Milo has become the welcoming cat to the
kittens that I foster.  He loves to relax on his back and tries to fit into boxes that are
much to small.  We are proud to have given these cats great homes!  Thank you
Adopt-a-Pet for saving them from the pound.

In September, 2006, I adopted Sweet Pea, the little tabby cat with
orange. She is adorable. I can't imagine life without her. She has
really come out of her shell since I have had her in my home. She is
no longer timid or quiet, she is wild, purrs like crazy and loves to
play. She especially likes her little mouse toys that she plays fetch
with, and I literally mean she plays fetch. You throw the mouse and
she runs like mad to get it and then she hauls it back. proud as ever,
in her mouth, and then sets it down by your hand or drops it into
your hand. It's super cute! I love having her around and when I had
to bring her to the vet to get her spayed, I missed her dearly. She is
a great addition to my house! Thanks so much for giving me the
opportunity to give her a home! I love her so much!!
Elvis(previously Jedi) has now been in his new home for close to one
year.  He has adapted well and gets along with his best buddy
Morgan all too well.  Together they like to play hard, go for walks,
cuddle on the couch (which is hard considering Elvis now weighs 70
lbs.)  One of Elvis's favorite things to do is go to obedience school.
He is now a novice.  He knows sit, stay, down, recall, finish, and loves
to shake hands.  Another of his favorite pastimes is posing for the
camera, going to the dog park and go for a ride in the backseat .  His
favorite hiding spots are under the blankets when he sneaks into the
bed, and on your lap.  Heading to the backyard for his daily run is also
highlight in his day.  He will run all day if you let him, only slowing
down to get a drink or chase a bug that may be flying through the
backyard.  Since moving to his forever home in North Moorhead Elvis
has learned not to bark all day and learned that his crate is a perfect
place to curl up and take a nap when nobody is home.  He will stand
there in the morning and beg to be put away so he may have a treat
and a nap.
This is my cat Twizzler, my name is Ingrid. In December he
came into my life during one of my toughest times, being
dignosed with cancer. I already have adopted a dog named
Max from Adopt-a-pet. And I've always wanted a cat of my
own before I started college. After a lot of begging and a
few strikes out on getting a cat, this beautiful kitten named
Twizzler came into my life. I went to go look at the cats at a
show day and fell inlove with him.
He is truely one of my best friends and his best friend, I'm
pretty sure is my dog Max. When we were adopting
Twizzler his foster mom told us that he hasn't been raised
around a dog ever. I was afraid they wouldn't get along.
Twizzy, as I call him seemed a little timid around Max at first
but his first day he walked around the house with Max and I
not too far behind. Twizzy and Max sleep together almost
every night, during the day, mornings.. any time he can
really get Max to let him sleep with him. When our oldest
dog Hannah died our dog Max seemed pretty lonely when
we would go to school or just be at home.  Twizzler seemed
to have made Max happier and definatly me. He is still
working on the oldest cat Iris to love him, but the Rabbit
doesn't mind him. [The fish on the other hand doesn't like it
when he hits the glass]. He is a great cat and and he is
perfect for me and my family.
It was one year ago today when we adopted our dog Johann
(formally known as Beau).  We read his very sad story of
neglect on the pet finder web site and knew that we could
provide him a good loving home.  When he was found by the
officials in your area on January 20th, 2006 he weighted only
39 lbs. and was too weak to walk or bark.  In a recent visit to
the vet he is now 79 lbs and in good health.   His appearance
has changed drastically since we first met him.  He was
missing much of the hair on his legs and face, but now it has
grown into a full coat.  He gets much attention on his walks for
his striking appearance.  He is an energetic dog who loves to
go for walks, runs, or hikes in the woods.  He has learned so
much over the past year and is now very well behaved.  He
still does not like all other dogs, but is much more tolerant
than when he first came home with us.  His favorite toy is his
blue fish which he carries around the house with him, if you
ask him where his fish is he immediately runs and finds it and
will bring it back to you.  We are so thankful to have Johann in
our lives; he adds energy and love to every day.  Thank you
so much for helping bring him into our lives and for the good
medical attention that you gave to him to help bring him to the
good health he is today.

Indy
Thank you so much adopt a pet.  We adopted Indy a little
over a year ago.  He is very comfortable in our home, and
spends much of the morning napping.  When we get home
from work of school we love to play frisbee out side with
him.  He loves to go on walks and he has made a few dog
friends in the neighborhood.  We are so lucky to have a
dog like Indy.
