Amber was abandoned, starving, and severely dehydrated. You can see in the “before” photo how even after two days of food and water this poor girl’s ribs and hips were still prominent. Her ears were already cut off, assumed to have been done at birth, but are healed fine. Her obsessive desire to catch and eat every bug and frog has led her rescuers to believe that perhaps that’s what she “survived” on while she slowly starved. Today, Amber is a healthy, robust, and energetic 6 month old puppy. Weighing 35+lbs., she is very loveable and friendly, and thoroughly enjoys attention. Despite starvation and her rough start, she has never shown any sort of food aggression toward human or animal. She is not aggressive with other dogs. However, she would do best with larger dogs, as she likes to play too rough for small dogs. She likes to play fetch, has some herding instinct, and also has a soft mouth and is willing to “drop” items/give easy when asked to “let go” of something. She enjoys rawhide bones and is very proud of her toys. When she plays and runs around, she often likes to carry something like a stick in her mouth, as if she’s showing off a prize. Very curious and playful, Amber would do great in an active home that is willing to spend lots of time burning her energy, playing games, and cuddling. Following suit with the old saying “a tired dog is a happy dog,” Amber is very attentive and does well learning the first steps of obedience training after she’s had some playtime. She is VERY smart and catches on quickly. She is needing to finish housetraining, but does well being crated overnight. Her soft eyes and abundant kisses will melt your heart! All she wants is love and fun, and is ALWAYS in a good mood! This sweet girl needs a forever home to love her with the abundance that she deserves!
