Statistics show large need for pet rescue in F-M area

Figures from the animal pounds in Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo show that 130 cats and 22 dogs were euthanized at the local pounds in 2012. This was a huge reduction of cat euthanizations compared to the previous several years while dog euthanizations were nearly the same.  Of the 130 cat euthanizations, 74 were considered feral and there were several months where no adoptable cats were euthanized.

The region continues to have higher cat euthanization rates compared to dogs.  Another positive takeaway from the cat numbers is a trend in reduced number of impounded cats.  Hopefully this means people are realizing letting their cat(s) roam freely outside is not a good idea.  Additionally, we hope more people are spaying/neutering their cats, thus reducing the number of unwanted litters.

Please continue to help local pet rescue organizations by adopting homeless pets. The great majority of our pets come from the pound, so adopting opens up our resources and allows us to rescue more from a needless death. Lets continue to drive these euthanization numbers down!  Thank You for your support!

With the help of its volunteers and supporters, Adopt-A-Pet has been able to rescue many animals every year, but we would love to rescue many more. We especially need more foster homes for cats and dogs in order to save more adoptable pets from being killed. Please keep reading to learn about ways you can help save more adoptable pets.
